AT working I gt to listen to podcast, watch vidcast and even catch a few TV shows I missed while editing at night. Last night I decided to download the entire season of "the Loop" a sitcom that came on mid season for FOX. While the show lasted only for eight episodes I knew about it when it started. It was hyped as the next greatest hit for FOX and most likely would have been if FOX didn't do the usual and put it on a killer night.
As I watched the pilot and subsequent episodes I learned one thing. This show was one of the most brilliantly written shows I have watched in awhile. The cast makes it even better. A true gem in the rough. What amazes me is that the show was in its first season. The performances, writing and the editing made it look like it was a strong show in its midyears.
I searched the reviews and saw that most felt that the humor was limited to those under 22, but I disagree. Some of the older characters really came out making that generation gap that most shows don't even try to cross.
I have heard rumors that the show may be brought back and possible on Comedy Central, where it will be appreciated. The problem as always is the megalith of FOX allowing the right to be shown or made again. We've seen many good shows ruined by the evil menace to great entertainment.
Today was a sick day for me. Allergies getting the best of me. for most of the day I was out and asleep. Then I awoke about 5 and started to work on the next High Maintenance Episode.
I really hope anyone who reads this takes the chance to download the first episode, while funny it compares NOTHING to the next one. For me to say this is mazing becuase of several things. First, I was their during the shootings. It was funny, but more of a job, so I was directed at making the shot work. Second I have been repeatedly running over the best clips to see what one will work the best. And last, I have edited these scenes for hours. Still I find myself having to stop and laugh and snarf when something comes out. Part of it is putting it out in editing and making it tight. The timing comes out and you see the pure craftsmanship of the scene (thanks to Stevan and Trae for that.)
Episode 2 which has been called "Double Doody" for now, to this moment makes me break up and laugh hard. Why becuase I know what's coming and how absurd it is.
The acting is really coming along and I am just beaming with the fact that this project is the one that will get MCP TV noticed, I hope and dream.
Well if you call me a friend, enemy or do not even know me please watch the first episode and decide for yourself... I promise you'll find something to laugh at.
The reason I have been hiding under a rock is two fold. One some where in all the commotion I dislocated my should and have been in a lot of pain.
Second, the mad rush and prep to get the new show of the editing board and out to everyone. Well The good news is it is out.
Last Saturday, we previewed the show to some of our close friends and the cast and crew. The rain scared many away and I slipped and dislocated my shoulder. All was not a loss though. We got rave reviews from the friends and even some local film makers about HM. The best was Danny Eckler praising the camera and editing work. Which lately we do always hear.
High Maintenance from the beginning was a project that I knew would go somewhere. It is funny, brilliantly written and while the acting is only the first episode, it still remain decent.
SO go check out the web page and download a version (flavor) of your choice and enjoy.
